New Owner/Breeder/Exhibitor Halter Classes Added to AQHA World Show

In addition to the two new Level 1 classes, the World Conformation Horse Association is offering three new WCHA owner-breeder-exhibitor conformation halter classes at the AQHA World Championship Show this year. The winners of these classes will be recognized as WCHA world champions.

"We are pleased to announce that WCHA and AQHA have joined to make these classes possible," said WCHA President Tim Finkenbinder. "Much time and effort has been spent by both WCHA and AQHA to help grow and improve the halter horse industry, and we think the owner-breeder is a significant contributor to the growth of the industry and the breed registry's success, worthy of significant recognition."

The three classes offered will be owner-breeder-exhibitor weanling geldings on Thursday, November 20; weanling colts on Friday, November 21; and weanling fillies on Saturday, November 22. The deadline to enter any of the OBE classes is Monday, September 15.

Any offspring that are AQHA registered and sired by 2014 WCHA Futurity-enrolled stallions will be eligible to enter. The cost to enter one of the OBE classes is $500.

"The WCHA, in conjunction with AQHA, first initiated the OBE classes in 2013 at the WCHA Breeder's Championship Futurity, to reward the breeders for their efforts and investment. The classes were an overwhelming success," said WCHA Futurity Chairman and AQHA Professional Horseman Luke Castle.

Please visit the Breeder Futurity Page for a current list of WCHA-eligible sires and see below for the guidelines for eligibility.

Why did the WCHA get started in the first place?
That is perhaps the most exciting thing about the movement. Owners, breeders and trainers all agreed that creating an organization with a unified voice was critical to the future of the industry. A diminishing market certainly served as catalyst for the first meeting in May 2007, but the result was a focus on the bigger picture of organizing a segment of the horse industry among the first seen in competition.

Why does the name of the association include Conformation Horse rather than Halter Horse?
The founders of the WCHA recognize that conformation is a crucial element to the soundness and athletic ability of the horse, regardless of the discipline in which it might be involved. While the WCHA will develop and promote halter horse competition, its primary mission will be to educate the public about the value of and how to recognize good conformation in the horse.
